    • As an anniversary for Yew Chung and Yew Wah schools, Founder’s Day this year was quite unique and impressive. It was not only a celebration, but also marked important milestones:

      ● The 86th anniversary of Yew Chung and Yew Wah
      ● The 25th anniversary of Yew Chung International School of Shanghai, the oldest independent international school in Shanghai
      ● The establishment of Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education, Asia's first professional early childhood education college

The celebration was held in the first YCIS Shanghai campus established in 1993 – the Hongqiao Campus. At the same time, other Yew Chung schools and its sister Yew Wah schools celebrated Founder’s Day as well.

Let’s take a look at how the YWIES Shanghai Lingang celebrated Founder’s Day!

This year, the children of the YWIES Shanghai Lingang begun the celebration with the national song and school song. The children first sang the national anthem in Chinese, and then the school anthem in English. This not only showed their patriotism and the love of school, but also their ability to master English and Chinese. We have a high expectation that our children should not only have the ability to go abroad, but also stay rooted to the motherland.

Every year on Founder’s Day, we review the development of Yew Chung and Yew Wah and the story of our founder, Madam Tsang Chor-hang. As in the past years, through the global connection, teachers and students of Yew Wah and Yew Chung in various locations greeted each other, and shared the grand event together.

During the video connection, Dr Betty Chan, CEO & School Supervisor of Yew Chung and Yew Wah, said:

“For children to have the best start in life, we need to provide them with the very best teachers. By providing quality training for Early Childhood Education teachers, we are planting the first seed in the lives of the next generation. We have therefore come full circle, with Yew Chung and Yew Wah providing education from ‘B to B’, from Baby to Bachelor.”

At YWIES Shanghai Lingang, we held a series of competitions among the four houses on Founder’s Day. Children designed their own house flag and house decorations and they built up their teamwork skills and school spirit during the activities.

The activities were set under the theme of teamwork: dodgeball, football, tug-of-war, and basketball.

Founder’s Day is not only a traditional celebration of the Yew Chung and Yew Wah, but also a bond through which we pass on the spirit of Yew Chung and Yew Wah. It is not only a commemoration of the glorious past, but also an invitation to every Yew Chung and Yew Wah staff and student to glorify China in the future.
